MUSICIAN DİLJÎN BEYAR REPORT

Attack, Death Threat, and Property Seizure Against a Kurdish Artist in Switzerland

23 October 2025European Kurdish Rights Watch (EKRW)

INCIDENT SUMMARY

On October 21, 2025, at approximately 20:02, Kurdish artist Diljîn Beyar, residing in Switzerland, was physically assaulted by four individuals at her residence and threatened with death.

The attackers threatened Diljîn Beyar to stop broadcasting on social media and to make no comments regarding the criminal organization.

Furthermore, the attackers declared that they were affiliated with the Rapperswil Association, linked to the "Komele" network, which is PKK's organizational structure in Switzerland.

When Beyar contacted the relevant association after the incident, the association officials acknowledged that the attackers were affiliated with them; however, they provided no explanation and took no measures regarding the incident.

SUBSEQUENT DEVELOPMENTS

Following the incident, Beyar filed an official complaint with the Swiss police and legal proceedings were initiated. Due to the ongoing threat to her life, she was temporarily relocated to another residence by the social institution she is affiliated with.

However, within two days of the complaint, PKK-affiliated individuals raided Beyar's residence. Unable to find Beyar at home, the attackers seized three tanburas (Kurdish traditional musical instruments) belonging to the artist. This act is considered a deliberate attempt to prevent the artist from performing music.

Following the public disclosure of the incident, a smear campaign was launched against musician Diljîn BEYAR by PKK criminal organization sources, and defamatory statements aimed at discrediting the musician were circulated.

CONTEXT

This incident is not an isolated case. Beyar has previously reported being subjected to repeated verbal and physical assaults, threats, and insults by the same organizational structure. According to data documented by EKRW, PKK-affiliated structures operating in Europe systematically implement a policy of pressure and intimidation against Kurdish intellectuals, artists, and activists who do not conform to their political line.

EKRW ASSESSMENT

This attack is not merely an act of violence against an individual. It is a direct threat to freedom of thought and expression, the right to artistic production, and pluralistic voices within Kurdish society. The seizure of a musician's instruments is a deliberate and symbolic act aimed at suppressing cultural expression.

EKRW strongly condemns this incident and makes the following calls:

  • To the Swiss authorities: To conduct the investigation effectively and impartially; to ensure the safety of the victim; to follow up on the return of the seized instruments.
  • To European human rights organizations: To systematically document the pressure and intimidation activities of PKK-affiliated structures against Kurdish civil society across Europe.
  • To the Kurdish public: To demonstrate a united stand against violence and threats, regardless of political differences.
