CURRENT ETHICS VIOLATION REPORT
Assessment of social media posts by Jiyan Elma (@1porgijo / formerly @porgijo2) regarding the attack on victim Diljîn Beyar from the perspective of journalism ethics
1. Purpose and Scope of the Report
This report has been prepared to assess, from the perspective of journalism ethics, professional principles, and international press organization standards, the posts made on 23 October 2025 by Jiyan Elma, a person residing in Switzerland who describes themselves on their social media profile as a "Freelance journalist – IFJ, Amnesty, Syndicom.ch member." The report aims to contribute to an ethics review by institutions such as the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), Amnesty International, and Syndicom.
The examination covers social media posts in which Jiyan Elma publicly denied the incident, blamed the victim, and used defamatory language, following Kurdish artist Diljîn Beyar, who lives in Switzerland, publicly stating that she was threatened and assaulted by PKK-affiliated individuals on 22 October 2025.
2. Background of the Incident
On 22 October 2025, Kurdish artist Diljîn Beyar announced via her social media account that she was attacked at her home by four PKK-affiliated individuals on the night of 21 October 2025.
On 23 October, the user Jiyan Elma (@porgijo2) characterized this statement as "entirely false," made posts that discredited the victim, directly accused the attacked person of lying, defended the attackers, and contained expressions that could endanger the victim's safety.
On 23 October, Diljîn Beyar characterized Jiyan Elma's posts as "slander and targeting" and announced that she would file a criminal complaint.
In response, Jiyan Elma directed expressions such as "you are shamelessly lying, despicable, dishonorable, immoral" at the victim in a new post.
In the following days, Jiyan Elma changed the account name to @1porgijo to avoid accountability.

3. Examined Posts
Post 1 (23 October 2025)
"I am telling the truth of the incident, which is entirely a lie..."
"Diljîn is trying to obtain asylum by exploiting anti-PKK sentiment."
"The people living in that house all face investigations in Turkey for crimes such as PKK membership, propaganda, aiding and abetting. Despite knowing this, Diljîn is someone who insults and curses PKK and Abdullah Öcalan almost every evening."
"A single young person (only 1 person) punched Diljîn in the chest."
"All the claims are lies."
"In conclusion; everything that was told is a lie."

Post 2 (23 October 2025 — after Diljîn Beyar's response)
"Now let us clarify your nonsense"
"I spoke with those living in that house and involved in this incident..."
"You are shamelessly lying here."
"Even if you deny it to the heavens, everyone knows your vileness."
"Anyone who backs down from filing a complaint is dishonorable, despicable, and shameless."
"No way, that's not happening."

4. Assessment from the Perspective of Journalism Ethics
a) Accuracy and Source Reliability
The examined posts contain no concrete evidence or independent source attribution. Jiyan Elma declared a definitive verdict of "entirely false" without citing any official investigation result, police report, eyewitness, or document. This is a direct violation of Articles 1 and 2 of the IFJ Declaration of Principles.
b) Impartiality and Independence
An open or implicit defense reflex toward the PKK, which is recognized as a criminal organization in European Union countries, was observed in the posts. While the posts targeted the victim artist who raised the assault allegations as a "liar," they defended the narrative of the alleged attacker group. This constitutes a clear violation of the independence principle.
c) Insult, Threat, and Hate Speech
"You are shamelessly lying here."
"Even if you deny it to the heavens, everyone knows your vileness."
"Anyone who backs down from filing a complaint is dishonorable, despicable, and shameless."
Such expressions are not only incompatible with journalism but may also fall under the offenses of "insult" and "defamation of personal dignity" in the Swiss Penal Code.
d) Discrediting the Victim
Declaring a violence victim's account as "completely false" and publicly blaming them creates secondary victimization. This attitude is incompatible with Amnesty International's human rights journalism principles.
e) Transparency and Professional Responsibility
Jiyan Elma used his institutional identity as an authority tool in the debate by stating "I am a member of the Journalists' Union (Syndicom.ch)." This is contrary to Syndicom's principles of impartiality and ethical responsibility.
5. Summary of Ethics Violations
| No | Ethical Principle | Nature of the Violation | Evidenced Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Accuracy | Information unverified, based on one-sided sources | "The entire incident is a lie." |
| 2 | Impartiality | Language that blames the victim and exonerates the perpetrator group | "She is exploiting anti-PKK sentiment." |
| 3 | Respect and Dignity | Insulting expressions, personal attack statements | "Dishonorable, despicable, shameless." |
| 4 | Victim protection | Targeting the violence victim | "You are shamelessly lying." |
| 5 | Institutional Impartiality | Using the union name in personal polemics | "I am a Syndicom.ch member, you can go there too." |
6. Institutional Recommendations
IFJ (International Federation of Journalists)
- Membership should be verified and an ethics violation investigation should be initiated.
- A disciplinary warning should be issued on the grounds of "using the journalism professional title as a tool for personal or organizational attack."
Amnesty International
- It should be investigated whether the member or volunteer has acted contrary to the principle of human rights-focused discourse.
- It should be communicated that public insults directed at a violence victim are contrary to the Amnesty code of ethics.
Syndicom.ch
- It is recommended that the person's membership status be verified and referred to the Journalism Ethics Commission.
- The professional licenses of members who insult a violence victim should be reviewed.
Additionally, preventive steps should be taken to protect the victim's safety and prevent her targeting in the digital environment.
7. Conclusion
- Jiyan Elma's posts systematically violate the principles of impartiality, accuracy, respect, transparency, and victim protection.
- The language used has departed from journalistic style and reached the level of biased anger and insult.
- These actions are not merely individual ethics violations but behaviors that damage the reputation of international journalism institutions.
- Additionally, a reflex of defending the PKK, which is recognized as a criminal organization in European countries, was observed in the posts.
- Jiyan Elma's severely insulting language directed at the victim is suitable for evaluation not only in terms of ethics but also in the context of a potential criminal prosecution regarding "hate speech," "insult," or "organizational crimes."
